Separate a visible indicator from a successful battery-maintenance result. A light may describe one part of the charger’s state; it does not by itself diagnose the battery, connection or daily energy balance.
Describe the symptom precisely
| Observation | Next evidence to collect |
|---|---|
| No indication | Exact model, documented light behavior, exposure and visible condition |
| Indicator on, battery declining | Supported connection, battery condition and parked loads |
| Works in one season, not another | Changed exposure, weather and demand |
| Connector damaged or overheating | Stop use and obtain qualified assessment; do not keep testing |
Do not copy another controller’s light legend
The Victron troubleshooting manual distinguishes charging state, supply conditions and battery-side issues for its own equipment. Its thresholds and procedures must not be transferred to a different small maintainer. Obtain the correct manual for the device in front of you.
Preserve the fault before trying a fix
- Record the model, label and complete supported connection arrangement.
- Photograph the indicator state and visible installation without exposing private details.
- Note when the battery was last known to be suitably charged.
- Ask the supplier or a qualified technician for the exact documented check.
A no-start does not prove a dead panel
The supplied customer records contain suspected controller failures, inadequate exposure and vehicle drains. Without diagnosis, a no-start cannot distinguish among them. Do not bypass protection, reverse battery leads or dismantle a controller to imitate a review workaround.
End with a cause or a documented escalation—not another guess
Success means the battery is maintained through its actual parked use, not merely that a light returns after reconnecting a cable. If the supported checks do not explain the problem, preserve the evidence and use the service route.
