The better location is the permitted one that receives useful exposure, stays secure and allows safe cable routing. Inside glass may simplify storage and theft concerns; outside placement introduces weather and retention requirements. Neither is automatically correct.
Compare the whole position
Check shading, glazing, heat exposure, visibility and where the panel will be stored before driving.
Check the documented environmental limits of panel, controller and connections, plus the approved retention method.
A working anecdote is not a glass-loss percentage
Owners report success behind glass and others report insufficient maintenance. Their panels, glazing, orientation and loads differ. Do not apply one fixed percentage loss to every windshield or infer useful charging simply because an indicator lights.
Think through a normal day of parking
Does a permitted setup fit the actual parking space?
Do shadows move over the panel or mounting points loosen?
Can the equipment be removed or secured without obstructing visibility?
Does the new position still achieve the maintenance result?
Keep thermal claims attached to exact documentation
SUNAPEX and Sun Energise feedback includes heat-related observations, but several records lack exact variant identification. Treat them as reasons to verify limits, not as certified operating temperatures. Never reproduce an owner’s tape, wiper or improvised moving-vehicle mounting as approved practice.
Pick the position by results and permitted use
Choose a location you can inspect and use consistently. If the convenient position cannot maintain the battery, changing panel size alone may not solve it; revisit exposure, connection and the actual demand before committing to unattended use.
